First look at the new features of the Logitech G19 Gaming Keyboard

Good: the colour screen supporting digital photos and playing of videos, programmable G-keys, media controls, compact, customisable backlit keys that can change to one of 16 million colours, built in 2 port powered USB hub and supports 5 simultaneous key presses.

Bad: requires an additional power cable (which is used to power the USB and screen) and the high price.

Similar products: The G15 and G11 keyboard offerings from Logitech are similar to this keyboard, other than the colour LCD. The G15 (1st edition - blue) has more programmable G-keys with similar media controls, the current G15 keyboard (red) has fewer programmable G-keys.

Logitech G19 Ultimate Gaming Keyboard - Novelty or Necessity?

Is all the new functionality enough to appease hard core gamers? What has been added to the G19 to justify the higher price? Will the new features be useful or just novelties that will not see much use? The most obvious change is the colour screen, capable of playing movies, what about the other features? The first G15 has more G-Keys than the G19 (the current model of G11 and G15 only has 1/2 of the G-Keys) and the media key functionality is common to the G11 and G15. The 16 million colours you can choose from for the colour of the back-lighting on the keys is definitely a cool feature.

The Logitech G19 Game Panel

The Game Panel replaces the LCD screen of the G15 keyboard and is now able to play video in colour as well as show text, you can watch YouTube videos on the screen while playing your favourite game. Other applications for the game panel include an RSS reader, Clock, Media Player, System Performance Monitor, Picture viewer and more.
