Logitech Z-5 USB Digital Speakers Review.

I was quite surprised at the high quality of these Z-5 speakers when I tried them. It was much better than I expected from USB speakers of this size.

I like the look of the speakers a lot, the speakers, other than the tops and bottoms are clad entirely in silk touch cloth. The Z-5 speakers come with a stylish mini remote control for easy control. The whole design is simple and fashionable. Rather than shoot sound out in one direction, the two stylish speaker stacks fire the sound out in all directions. These speakers are designed to immersive you in sound like a home theatre surround sound system without the expensive cost.

The Z-5 speakers are simple and easy to use. I don’t need to read through the manual to connect them, it was as easy as “plug-and-go”: one cable connected the left and right stacks, and a USB cable connected to the notebook, power was supplied by the USB hub, so no external power is required. There is also an audio jack for an IPod, cell phone or other music players.

The quality of the sound is stunning when I played my music. The sound is almost crystal clear and still very clear even when I turned the volume to maximum. The layers of the sound are quite distinct and well arranged. The subwoofers are built in to the bottom of the stacks and provide great performance in showing their immersive bass effect.

When I tested the speakers for playing movies, I chose Transformers on DVD which contains fighting scenes with all kinds of sound tracks, with mixture of unequal layers of sound. The performance of Z-5 speakers didn’t disappoint me. The layers of sound are still quite clear, although the bass could be better. However as 2.0 portable speakers, the performance is impressive.

The only worry I have with Z-5 speakers is that there is no controls on the stacks; so you might have problems if you lose the remote control.

If you are after a compact 2.0 speaker system that performs well and is easy to use I highly recommend the Z-5 speakers.
