Logitech's range of network music players, which they have named the "Squeezebox" now includes a touch-sensitive model to go with the latest trend of touch-enabled devices like the iPad, iPod Touch and the just announced Blackberry tablet.
The Squeezebox Touch essentially does many of the same things the previous versions such as the Squeezebox Duet and Classic did (such as playing music from your iTunes or MP3 collection, streaming live radio stations or playing subscription based music services), however it now offers this in an intuitive touch-screen interface.
One distinct advantage the Touch has over previous versions though, is the ability to plug in a USB drive to the back of the device, playing your collection directly, so you won't have to have your computer or the internet connected if you don't want to. It also has analog and digital outputs on the back so you can connect it up to whatever high-end stereo you want to listen to your colletion through. So all-in-all, a very diverse gadget! |
You can easily select your music from the 4.3 inch colour touch screen, or if you don't want to get up, control it using the included remote. The Squeezebox Touch gives you a variety of options in listening to the music you like. You can listen to your own personal collection stored on your computer (Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems are supported), tune into a local or international radio station that broadcasts on the net, or connect to online services such as Pandora, Rhapsody and Last.fm. What's more, the Touch delivers this music in super high quality, up to 24bit, which is DVD audio quality.
Adding more flexibility to the Squeezebox Touch is its ability to connect to an existing network either wirelessly, or through ethernet cable. It is extremely simple to add to your network which lets you listen to your music in any room in the house. As previously mentioned, the Touch has a USB port, allowing you to slot in a USB drive with your music collection on it, so you don't even have to start up your computer if you don't want to. Add to this an SD card slot that allows you to view your photos directly on the screen, and you've got a very nifty device in the palm of your hands.
