First Impressions

Design

OPPO Find X3 Pro

OPPO Find X3 Pro

The OPPO Find X3 Pro certainly has one of the more interesting designs we've seen in smartphones recently. Front-on, the X3 looks mostly the same as the X2. But the difference is immediately noticeable when you turn the phone around. We had the Blue model, which has a frosted matte glass back, giving it a cleaner look and more grip compared to a lot of smartphones.

According to OPPO, the Find X3 Pro's design is inspired from spacecraft. On the back, it seems like they tried to minimise lines and angles for more natural curves. The rear camera changes from rectangular unit we saw in the Find X2 Pro, to a larger rounded square that slopes up from the rear glass. It makes it look like the back is formed from single piece of glass. It is also lighter than a lot of top end smartphones nowadays. For example, the S21 Ultra weighs 227g, Mi 10 Ultra weighs 223g, iPhone 12 Pro Max weighs 228g, while the Find X3 Pro comes in at 193g.

All the other usual features are right here - including home and volume buttons, dual SIM tray, USB-C port. It does feature stereo speakers from top to bottom, which do a decent job.

Display

When it comes to the display, the Find X3 Pro definitely does not disappoint. It's a 6.7" 3216 x 1440 LTPO AMOLED with 120Hz adaptive refresh rate with up to 240Hz touch-sampling, on-par with most of the competition. It has impressive colour support, with 10-bit colour, and modes ranging from 71% - 104% NTSC, 100% sRGB and 100% DCI-P3. Additionally it has HDR10+ support, with a maximum typical brightness of about 1300 nits.

Simply put, the Find X3 Pro's display is high res, bright and smooth. It was definitely enjoyable to watch YouTube videos, play games or even just scroll through web pages.

Camera

The new and improved camera system of the Find X3 Pro is one of its standout features. It sports a quad-camera system in the back, with dual 50MP Sony IMX 766 sensors for the regular wide-angle and ultra-wide angle cameras, a 13MP telephoto camera and a 3MP micro-lens camera.

The benefit of the dual Sony sensors is that the ultra-wide performance is not compromised compared to the primary camera, as is in a lot of other smartphones, so people who love shooting in ultra-wide should definitely be interested. In terms of its photo taking and video capability, we would say its quite good. It performed brilliantly in great lighting conditions, but did tend to overexpose and smoothen in some poorer lighting.

We had a bit of fun with the 3MP micro-lens camera. It's not exactly the most useful camera for most people, but it allows you to produce some very interesting photos, and see things like you wouldn't normally see (hairs, dust particles, shirt fibres etc.). However, it is a bit tricky to get a focused image, requiring you to hold to phone close and flat to the subject.

Performance

OPPO Find X3 Pro

OPPO Find X3 Pro

The Find X3 Pro is pretty much top-of-the-line when it comes to performance on a 2021 Android Phone. Starting off with the CPU, it comes with the new 5nm Snapdragon 888, that claims to be 15-20% faster than Qualcomm's previous Snapdragon 865+ and 865 respectively and more energy efficient. It also comes with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage.

We'll leave the benchmarks and comparisons for experts, but our experience is what you expect from the latest and greatest processor currently available. Performance is super-fast and smooth along with the 120Hz display, while its 12GB of RAM should mean multi-tasking is no issue. For mobile gamers out there, the Adreno 660 GPU offers around a 25% improvement over the previous generation Adreno 650, and so you can expect to run most games out there easily.

Our Thoughts

★★★★☆ (4/5)

Our first impressions with the OPPO Find X3 Pro are quite positive. The display is bright, crisp and smooth thanks to the 120Hz refresh, and incredibly vivid with its colour support. With the upgraded performance improvements, the phone also feels lightning quick in operation. The camera system also received great improvements with exclusive Sony sensors and an all-new microscopic camera. Furthermore, it comes with the usual features OPPO fans would expect - including a new version of ColorOS and class-leading 65W SuperVOOC charging. Where it falls behind the competition would be its photo/video taking, where we feel competitors such as Samsung, Apple and Google perform slightly better. Additionally, whilst it does have some of the fastest charging of any smartphone, the 4500mAh capacity seems to perform average in comparison with other Androids.
