We can't get away from climate change, but on the positive side, it's pushing innovation forward at a rapid pace, so time to jump on the bike!

Electric Scooters - How they Work

When you twist your throttle, there's a controller that reacts by informing the battery that then sends electric energy to the motor and wheels.

The motor uses the energy, rotates the gears, and moves your wheels forward.

Some e-scooters need a push like a regular kick scooter, using the throttle to get the motor going and then need guidance employing the t-stem and brakes. The speed you get from your machine will depend on the manufacturer and the spec.

Electric Scooters and Their Communication

The scooter's brain comes from your Motherboard management system. It tells every other machine part what to do, just like your mother!

The electric battery, throttle, motor and brakes are all run through, and information is gathered by sending info out to each part.

Hub motors can come attached to both the inside and outside of various manufacturers' models and are superior to outboard motors with sound levels, torque, response times and, ultimately, power.

Throttle and Battery coordination. Throttle - Motherboard - Slow - Medium - Fast, in that order. When you hit the throttle, the Motherboard kicks in, and that's where your varying throttle comes in. It opens the floodgates BUT always keeps battery power in check.

Energy from the battery goes to the motor, combines with the battery and together signals rotation.

The Motherboard works out the momentum of the rider's needs upon pressing the throttle; it rotates. JOB DONE!

Benefits of Using an Electric Scooter

Improving Body Balance

Body balance sounds easy. Well, not quite. Standing up straight and being pushed can put you off balance, but this can be a good thing over time. It's a skill just like riding a bike.

The Environment

We can't get away from it so let's hit it head-on. An electric scooter reduces carbon footprint, and we know it. But there are other benefits, which include noise pollution, especially if you live in an enclosed area.

Easier Journeys and a Money-Saver

These scooters are easy to travel on and get around. Once you're getting around, you'll soon see the benefits of not needing public transport or using the car when unnecessary.

Parking and gas, in general, are costing way more money than recharging a battery. So you get a little bit of freedom that costs less, so why not?

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What are the rules for electric scooters in Australia?

E-scooters can be ridden on both bicycle lanes, and paths also shared paths and on the road. Your speed limit is up to 50 km/h only. On shared paths, you must ensure you stay under 10km/h. It is illegal if you ride your e-scooter on a footpath.

Should I charge my scooter after every use?

No, It is not necessary. The best way is to ensure you maintain a battery level between 30% and 80%. If you know you are going on a long journey, be sure to give your scooter a full charge.

What happens if I overcharge my electric scooter?

You can damage the battery's capacity on some models if you overcharge it. The reason is the plating of the metallic lithium; this can block the flow of electrons and ions, which leads to degradation.

Can I use an electric scooter in the rain?

With an electric scooter being an electrical device, over-exposure to rain can potentially damage them — we all know electronics and water do not mix!
